Florence Nightingale Pledge

This modified "Hippocratic Oath" was composed in 1893 by Mrs. Lystra E. Gretter and a Committee for the Farrand Training School for Nurses, Detroit, Michigan. It was called the Florence Nightingale Pledge as a token of esteem for the founder of modern nursing.

I solemnly pledge myself before God and in the presence of this assembly, to pass my life in purity and to practice my profession faithfully. I will abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous, and will not take or knowingly administer any harmful drug. I will do all in my power to maintain and elevate the standard of my profession, and will hold in confidence all personal matters committed to my keeping and all family affairs coming to my knowledge in the practice of my calling. With loyalty will I endeavor to aid the physician in his work, and devote myself to the welfare of those committed to my care.

The Story of A Seed

Years ago, I planted a seed in a big field by a friend’s help. I wanted to see a nice fresh plant with many flowers although it was not my aim for planting. I gladly water and weed my little plant every day. In my thought, I satisfied for myself. When it had been grown, I was delightful to stay under its shade during summer days. The tranquil shade gently entered into my heart through my blood vessels.My heart beating gradually became fast. Once summer gone, its tranquil shade was disappeared. I regretfully miss the time that I stayed under its shade although it was too short. The consequence of a change gave me a lesson. As the nature of shade is a temporary, it went out of my life forever. Eventually, an unknown disease was left in my heart.

My Trip

I will never be able to forget my first experience in a big forest, called Pal Khue Yoma. In 2007, I went there with my friends and a priest to assist the villagers' spirituality of Catholicism. Our journey was taken for three hours on foot to a village in the forest. The villagers are very simple and shameful. We were very strange for them.

They have to get water from a stream which is located at the bottom of a mountain. I saw all of their houses are built by bamboo only which is plenty in the forest. It is their nature that their village and houses are always temporary. Sometimes, Elephants come to destroy their houses. Sometimes, they have to find a better place for the better agriculture.

If we compare to our life, we are totally different. Is your house temporary? Has your house ever been destroyed? Do you have to get water from a stream? We could even say that our life are pleasingly perfect. Now, you still have many chances to analyse your life. How many good and bad thing have you done? Have you ever misused the opportunity, given by God? Count, use and share the God's grace and praise for that.

It is true that nothing happened by chance. However, never take a chance if you are not wealthy enough to receive it. Why? You will be judged one day. There are poor people who are waiting for the chance. Why we do not give our helping hand? Let them be shared because we belong to each other. We have to love one another. Those who do not know how to help and love one another are called the poorest person.

Pure Life

This is one of my favourite songs. It is really true that the pure life is the best. It is survivable without wealth of gold and other materials throughout our life. Life time is too short so we must use our time effectively together with being honest. Time is the most valuable thing. Honesty is the best policy. Let them go together. You will not have any benefits by being a human if you do not use valuable time with efficiency.
